students at event

The Offices of Residence Life, the Center for Cultural Engagement (CCE), and Dean of Students would like to introduce you to the Commuter in Residence (CIR) Program. We understand and acknowledge that students who commute to Catholic University engage with the community in different ways than the residentially-based student body. Commuting students are balancing the same academic requirements as their residential peers, often while navigating a lengthy commute to campus, off-campus job obligations, and additional family responsibilities. The CIR program was built with all this in mind!

The Commuter in Residence Program will provide all first-year commuter students with the opportunity to become an active member and participant within an on-campus residential community. It is the goal of our offices to provide programs and services that promote campus engagement and facilitate a supportive environment for commuter student academic, spiritual, and personal development and success.

Participants in this program will have the opportunity to:

  • Build connections with fellow first-year students and professional staff
  • Participate in activities, floor meetings, and events that take place in the residence hall
  • Be connected to an Resident Assistant (RA) and residential community
  • Access to residence hall communal spaces during visiting hours (10am-12am Sunday through Thursday, 10am-2am Friday and Saturday). Students who participate in this program should also review our Visitation Policy

Engagement in Program

This program is available for first-year commuting students interested in building connections with the CUA campus community. It may not fit the needs or interests of all students due to family, academic, and/or work commitments, but can be a rewarding compliment to the college experience. In addition to being involved with a residential community, participants will also be invited to various events including:

  • Commuter Social During Orientation: August 22, 2024 at 8pm
  • Residence Hall Floor Meeting During Orientation: August 22, 2024 at 8:30pm
  • Sounds of DC Culture: August 25, 2024 at 11am
  • CCE Welcome Back Picnic: August 30, 2024 at 3pm
  • Commuter Lunch: September 4, 2024 at 12pm
  • Getting to Know Faculty Members Coffee Hour Series: September 4, 11, and 18, 2024 at 3pm

We have created these events so you can take your place as a member of the CUA residential community right from its beginning. More information about these events and others happening on and around campus can be found on the Nest, which is a website that allows the campus community to highlight upcoming events and activities.
